Love For Amy

Completely exhausted, but had to share the good news

Today was a long day, filled with friends and hospital visits. It started at 8:00am with a much appreciated cold, early trip to SF General with a good friend, way better than a cab to start the day. I was in tears to hear the news that I was free to take off the neck brace that had been imprisoning me for the past 3 months. The first thing I did was take a nice big stretch using my full range of motion in my arms. It’s amazing how everything feels and how much I can appreciate things like turning around and stretching my arms out. Movement I’ve always taken for granted is now a gift. I had about three more hours in the hospital this morning, in the Pain Clinic and pharmacy. Then it was an awesome afternoon with another wonderful friend doing some City Car Share errands, trying to take it as easy as possible. Moving in this new body is amazing, I can’t wait to rebuild my muscles with yoga, I know that will be the best cure for what’s ailing my body and mind. So, my eyes are tired, as is the rest of me after one last trip to the  hospital pharmacy to pick up my prescriptions. I had to let you all know that good news and thank all of you for helping me throughout all of this and your continued love is much needed!

Yes, Amy DOES cry

This has been an especially challenging week. Emotionally and mentally it has been a nightmare. We went to the sentencing this week for the monster that ran me over and while I’m not at liberty to give details (since the protection of the juvenile involved is of utmost importance in the eyes of the law)  let’s just say the light tap she got on the wrist will be served and finished way before I’m back on a bike. I cannot accept this and will be spending a portion of my time and energy over the next couple years seeking redemption. They were way too easy on the girl who impaled me with her hood ornament. That wound I have on my upper left thigh, it’s from me being impaled on the hood of her truck, that’s why she had to shake me off (before she ran me over on her way to escape). I’m already saying too much because I have to be mindful and respectful about her right to privacy. If you can’t taste the sarcasm, I must warn you this entry is covered with a two-inch frosting of the stuff. It’s part of my coping mechanism these days as all of it seems so ridiculous, like a big joke is being played on me, but it’s not. It’s real, and it stinks.

The fundraiser tally!

So many inquiring minds want to know! And everyone should know how much they helped me out last Friday. I made at least $2,000 and got a lot of art to a ton of people. I’d say at least 300 people showed up throughout the night. Most I knew, but a lot were new faces coming to support a fellow bikerider, or former and current co-workers, roomates and friends. Thank you all so much, and if you weren’t here physically, you were in my thoughts and continue to be all the time!

Amy’s top 5 movie reviews (no spoilers)

Perfume: The first five minutes will have you hooked into this murder story, based on a novel written in the 80′s. That’s all I saw because I passed out 7 minutes into the movie.

Samurai Fiction: Looked like it was going to be a good story, not the usua samurai tale. I fell asleep 10 minutes in.

Evan Almighty: I love Steve Carell and Was hoping this movie would be in the same category of 40 Year-old Virgin and other smart comedies of Steve’s. I only saw the first 20 minutes of this movie, because I passed out, but those 20 minutes blew! I wouldn’t restart or finish this one unless you paid me.

American Psycho: I made it through this one! OK, I passed out twice, but I rewinded and made it through in one sitting.

Ok, so it’s the “Top 4″ -  I can only make it through so much of a movie these days, as I’m laying down in sleep mode while viewing. The heating pad combined with painkillers = immediate slumber for me. Who am I kidding, I do this normally! I have to make a conscious effort not to pass out while watching movies. Even in the theater.

In the midst of all this party planning, I’ve found my energy incredibly “up” and it’s due to inspiration. All of the work I’ve been receiving from artists and artisans all over the country has got my juices flowin again. I made these bandanas for the party, and am happy to see my polyester neckerchiefs put to use!bandanas_all.jpgbikedana_01.jpgblack_white_bandana.jpg

Two more days and so much amazing stuff!

I just received 10 2.5″x4.5″ acrylic on canvas panels. Each set of 2-3 panels creates a trippy, lavender haze that you fall into with the beautiful male and female subjects. I wish I could decorate my living room with these, as I knew I’d want to do with everything I’ve been getting for the party. This group of traveling artists on their way from Australia to Mexico stayed here for a little bit at my friend’s dope artists’ residence co-op, a million fishes.

They had a collaborative show there before moving on to different inspiration. These pieces, 10 total creating four panel sets, are absolutely amazing and need to be seen in person to completely appreciate their detail and experience their magic:

I am so lucky to have been donated these pieces from these amazing artists.

I’m getting so excited for the party! The outpouring of love and help from everyone has been amazing. From people I’ve never met, to new friends, to friends I haven’t talked to in way too long, and the core I’m lucky to always be in touch with. I’ve gotten handmade blankets, jewelry, bags, photographs, screen prints, paintings and more to sell and auction on Friday. I can’t wait to see everyone! gifts.jpg
